Take in views of rolling acacia hills, open grasslands, and swamp-fringed lakes in one of the most scenic reserves in Africa.

Start the day with breakfast at Akagera Game Lodge, then set off on a game drive across the park’s savannah plains. Along the way, your guide will help you spot large herds of buffalo, impala, zebras, and giraffes, as well as elephants, baboons, antelopes, and many species of birds. Stop at your leisure to photograph the wildlife and hear about the animals’ habits and behaviors, and keep an eye out for the Big Five.

After the game drive, head to the forest-fringed lake edge and drift along the water, passing huddles of hippos and basking crocodiles. Enjoy epic scenery along the meandering Akagera watercourse, which feeds a labyrinth of lakes, including Lake Ihema, the largest of them.

Once you’ve taken your final photos and said farewell to the park, relax on the scenic drive back to Kigali. Your driver/guide will drop you at your hotel or the airport, as long as your flight is on the same day the safari ends.
