Volcanoes National Park hiking Tours ( Mount Bisoke Hiking Adventure, Muhabura, and Karisimbi). The Karisimbi mountain name in Kinyarwanda means “white shell”, which refers to the white-capped summit which is often seen. Karisimbi is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa. This is a strenuous 2-day hike. The climb will start early in the morning and take 6 hours. You will climb further via the Bisoke side, before reaching the first stopping place at an altitude of 3.700 m for overnight (camping). Rwanda’s caves date back 65 million years and lie within the volcanic region where lava flow layers long ago created the Albertine Rift Valley. The caves offer easy hiking 2 kilometers in distance and have brilliant views of cascading lights from the surface, unique rock formations, and a colony of bats.

If you are looking for a variation on the usual safari experience, a boat trip on Lake Ihema will not disappoint. Drift along the forest-fringed lake edge, past huddles of hippos and basking crocodiles. Lake Shakani is the site of sports fishing in the park; spend a relaxing day fishing off the lake shore and then cook your catch over an open fire at the campsite.

Rubavu (also known as Gisenyi) is a waterfront town located on the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s great bodies of water. At only an hour away from Volcanoes National Park, Rubavu is a great way to unwind after trekking adventures.

Rubavu marks the beginning of the Congo Nile Trail, which extends 227 km to Rusizi and has plenty of biking and hiking trails to fulfill those who crave some more adventure. Rubavu is also known for its agrotourism experiences, with many tea and coffee plantations nearby.

Lake Kivu is a stunningly beautiful lake and an incredible place to visit. With no hippos or crocodiles and crystal clear, clean water, it is also one of the safest lakes in Africa. The origins of the city’s name, Mt. Kigali rise above 6,000 feet (1,800 meters high from sea level ), offering great views of the city—and extra adventures on the summit.
